Students Spark Inspiration at the My Story Student Exhibition
The My Story Student Exhibition lit up Wallaceburg District Secondary School on Friday November 14 as students unveiled powerful artwork and deeply personal stories about their connection to local waterways. The school library was transformed into a bright and welcoming gallery where creativity and community came together in a way that felt both exciting and meaningful.
Parents, families, students, and staff filled the space with energy as members of WATCH Citizen Science joined in to celebrate the young artists. The exhibition was filled with colour, curiosity, and heartfelt storytelling as students shared how the Sydenham River, St. Clair River, and the natural world around them shape their lives and identities.
WATCH Communications lead Kris Lee spoke with enthusiasm about how moved she was by the students. She said she was impressed by the entries but truly taken back by how personal the stories were and how willing students were to share them.
Art teacher Scott Lalonde welcomed everyone with warm appreciation and thanked the students for their thoughtful participation. Program Manager Sherri-Anne Wills encouraged the students, telling them they were amazing and that they are the leaders or the prelude to the larger story that will unfold in March at the upcoming My Story Community Exhibition. She also surprised the students by letting them know they will receive a golden ticket to enter the March show without going through the regular entry process.
Principal Tiffany Cadotte shared her excitement as well calling the students’ work phenomenal and stating that the personal stories of connection to water were truly inspiring. Her message to the students was simple and heartfelt. Thank you everyone.
The student exhibition is not just a showcase. It is the opening page of a much larger story. In March the community will be invited to contribute their own experiences and artwork reflecting their bond with water. This bigger exhibition will bring people together from across the region creating an intergenerational picture of how water shapes who we are.
WATCH Citizen Science is proud to support this creative effort. The program runs from Wallaceburg to Sarnia and encourages people of all ages to observe their environment and share what they notice. Creativity curiosity and community spirit are all part of citizen science and the My Story Student Exhibition captured that spirit beautifully.
More details about the March community exhibition will be shared soon. Visit citizenscience.ca or follow us on Facebook or Instagram to stay connected with the story as it grows.
